Christine Allen, recently appointed as Director of CAFOD, spoke on the topic “Our Common Home – responding to the climate emergency and the world’s poor”. We were delighted to welcome a large audience drawn from Rugby, Warwickshire and futher afield and including some 40 pupils from Rugby School. Rugby School provided the venue and a meal for delegates before the talk.
Christine gave a passionate and inspiring talk about the impact of climate change on the world and particularly the effects on poor communities in other countries who already experience the effects of climate change through drought, famine, and flood. We are challenged as individuals, through our faith communities and with other groups to take the initiative with individual actions as well as to demand that our politicians fully recognise the urgent need for immediate effective government action and committecd long term strategies.
We had a good opportunity for group discussion that raised many deep questions some of which Christine was able to address.
