Rugby Interfaith Forum holds monthly discussion meetings and each year a peace walk and public meeting.
The Peace Walk
About a hundred people took part in a walk through Rugby on that first event in 2001 and visited some of the places of worship of the faith communities. We have repeated this Peace Walk most years and plan to continue this tradition in the future. Starting at the Peace Tree we visit typically a Christian church, the Hindu Temple, the Sikh Gurdwara and the Mosque.
Meetings
We also discussed some of the significant moral issues that confront us such as world poverty, alcohol, climate change and abortion. 2017 discussion topics included refugees, the environment, war and mysticism.

The Women Who Built The Sikh Empire
This fascinating lecture was held in Rugby in October 2017 is being repeated in Birmingham. The lecturer is Dr Priya Atwal (PhD in History at the University of Oxford), who speaks about her research on Sikh History. For the Rugby event all ticket sales went to 'Unite in Virtue' – a charitable organisation which helps those in need and holds a weekly food bank in Birmingham. In doing so we raised ~£600 to help sustain the Food Banks.
The Sikh community are organising a similar event with the same lecturer (Dr Priya Atwal) who will give a talk/presentation about Women in the Sikh Empire in the 19th and 20th centuries. It will take place in Birmingham at the Ruddock Performing Arts Centre. Tickets, (£5:00) can be purchased on-line here
The goal of this fundraiser is to achieve £1000 to go direct to 'Unite in Virtue' in order to start two new Food Banks, one in Coventry and a new one in Leicester. The money will help volunteers buy food, an urn for hot drinks, tables, paper/polystyrene cups, plastic cutlery, plastic containers etc on a weekly/monthly basis.
To help this event flourish and succeed to its maximum potential, please would you help to publicise and advertise this event by passing on the leaflet that can be downloaded here.
Thank you.
